You Have to Laugh

Or cry. Senator Boxer can tell the protests at town hall meetings aren't sincere because the protesters are too well dressed. The video is at Hot Air.

I'll remember to dress like one of my students if I go to a meeting. I guess for sure this means no bow tie.

  1. Actually, the protestors in 2000 really were an astroturfed group of aides and other various and sundry people connected to the Republicans. That wasn't spontaneous protest; that was organized disruption by a group of individuals who were paid, in money and in jobs, to distract.

It does not take a leap of imagination to believe that's what's happening here; the marks are all the same. However, even if it's not, the behaviour of these people is completely unacceptable, since the point of town halls is to have public discourse and they are refusing to let anyone else have anything else to say.

  2. No actually they are in many cases trying to ask questions, get answers, and express a dissenting view. Just a couple of years ago we were told by the protesters disrupting Republican meetings that dissent was patriotic - now it's inappropriate? I seem to recall organized Code Pink interruptions every chance they got, including an embarrassing interruption of the Republican Convention. Organized group protests have been used by both sides, I repeat, both sides for decades. The videos I've seen have been generally protests without crudity, insult, or disruption. The reports and videos I've seen do not show people refusing to let others have their say, they are trying to get their Congressmen to answer and address their concerns. For comparison, let's have organized groups attend and protest at funerals of slain American soldiers. Oh wait, that already happens, regularly.

I think all of our politicians frequently look through one-way glass. I try, and I hope others, try to see both sides.

  3. In the Nixon V McGovern the former's campaign slogan was "Nixon's the One!" The latter sent aides dressed as pregnant Nuns holding signs saying "Nixon's the One!"

    HA!
